Armenian General Benevolent Union Plovdiv was first established in January 1910 and was active until 1944 when the communist regime in Bulgaria took over power and dismantled all other organizations. It was reestablished and activity restored in 1992. Its main purpose, as part of the large global AGBU family is to support and promote various forms of Armenian community life both locally and internationally, as well as engage the youth through educational, cultural, and social programs and events. AGBU is the largest Armenian non-profit organization in the world.
